Phils Win in Extras!
Posted by Brandon at 3:13 PM 0 commentsYesterday the Phillies pulled off a amazing come from behind win to prevent being sweeped by the San Francisco Giants. Jayson Werth delivered the clutch 3 run double in the ninth to tie it up at 4 a piece. Then Brian Schneider helped the Phillies take the lead. He scored on a wild pitch by Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt. Ryan Madson blew the lead in the 10th though. Andres Torres singled in Nate Schierholtz. Madson would end up with the win however. The Phillies offense struck back again in the eleventh. Shortstop fill in Wilson Valdez came through in the clutch with a rbi double. And then Valdez scored on a error by left field fill in Andres Torres. Valdez was the fill in for Juan Castro, who was the fill in for Jimmy Rollins. Torres was the fill in for Mark DeRosa who is filling in at second base for the injured Freddy Sanchez. Nelson Figueroa once again delivered a great inning of work. He sealed the deal for Philadelphia.

Roy Halladay receives first loss
Posted by Brandon at 12:47 PM 0 commentsSadly, last night Roy Halladay received his first loss as a Philadelphia Phillie. Halladay was rattled early and often. He didn't have anything going for him, including the Phillies offense who failed to score more then one run.

Ryan Howard signs a 5 year 125 million dollar extension
Posted by Brandon at 5:20 PM 0 commentsToday all-star slugger Ryan Howard was inked to a 5 year 125 million dollar extension. This contract will come into effect after his current one runs out. Therefore they have him until 2016. Howard will get about a 7 million dollar raise from his current 18 million dollar deal (per year) salary. This is the largest contract ever given to a Phillie and is the second highest contract given to a active player (per annual salary). Howard's deal is only topped by Alex Rodriguez's mega deal, where he gets 33 million per year. It is kind of a surprise that they would try to ink up a player who still has 2 years on there contract compared to a guy *cough*Jayson Werth*cough* who's deal is almost done soon. This makes me wonder if the Phils think they don't have enough to keep Werth and would rather just lock up there other studs instead of making a failing pursuit at Werth. I just hope the evil empires of the AL (Yankees and Red Sox) don't snag him for big cash. When will the day come, that the Yankees run out of money? I don't know.

Nelson Figueroa, who was spot starting due to JA Happ's injury, pitched 5 innings. In which he allowed only 2 runs. Chad Durbin pitched 2 innings following Nelson and then Jose Contreras and Ryan Madson pitched the final two innings. Jose received the win making him 1-1 and Madson got his 4th save of the season.

Phillies Trounce Braves
Posted by Brandon at 8:09 PM 0 commentsA day after Doc shut them out the bats came alive. The Phils exploded for 8 runs. Jamie Moyer claimed his second win making him 2-1 and Derek Lowe received his first loss making him 3-1. While Moyer was in the Braves scored two runs, however neither were earned. Then in the 7th Chad Durbin let up 1 run. And to close off the game Danys Baez and David Herndon pitched scoreless innings.

Phillies lose heartbraker against Braves
Posted by Brandon at 1:47 PM 0 commentsLast night Kyle Kendrick finally had a good outing! To bad Ryan Madson and Jose Contreras recked his night. Kendrick pitched 8 shutout innings, Madson gave up 3 runs in 1 inning after that, and Contreras gave up the game winner in the 10th. Before we get to the bad and ugly lets talk about some of the good things that happened yesterday.

Ruben Amaro is a genius so far!
Posted by Brandon at 8:16 PM 0 commentsRuben Amaro is a sheer genius. His big off season moves carried the Phillies in todays opening day game against the Washington Nationals. Roy Halladay which many say was the biggest move of the off season pitched 7 innings allowing only one run. Placido Polanco had a career high 6 runs batted in. 4 of those rbis came from a grand slam he hit. Here's a complete rundown of the game.

The Phillies last years Mets?
Posted by Brandon at 7:33 AM 0 commentsThe Phillies will start the 2010 season with 3 key components of there pitching staff on the DL. Brad Lidge who was expected to miss the first week or two of the 2010 season due to off season surgery. Lidge never pitched in spring training. He received a shot in his throwing elbow yesterday. Hopefully he is able to return to his 2008 form. In the mean time Ryan Madson will serve as the closer. I think Madson will do better at closer then he did last year because he won't have to switch from set up man to closer mid season.
