Roy Halladay receives first loss

Sadly, last night Roy Halladay received his first loss as a Philadelphia Phillie.  Halladay was rattled early and often.  He didn't have anything going for him, including the Phillies offense who failed to score more then one run.

In the first inning Halladay was knocked around good.  Both Pablo Sandoval and Edgar Renteria launched base knocks off of him and eventually got into scoring position at second and third.  Then Mark DeRosa, who the Phillies were interested in as a third basemen, hit a single to left that allowed both Sandoval and Renteria to score.  Mark DeRosa who can play quite many positions will settle in as the left fielder once Freddy Sanchez.  Due to Freddy's injury DeRosa has been put at many different spots to fill in.  Last night he played second base.

After the string of Giants hits the Phillies bats went quite.  Wilson Valdez once again played in place of Juan Castro, who has a injury.  Castro is still on the Phillies roster but has been unable to perform in the last few games.  Valdez has been doing good defensively but he's hitting is slacking.  It's ashame Juan Castro got injured.  It must have felt so good to be start and performing so well.  He almost has as many runs batted in as he did the entire season last year.  Eric who?

In the bottom of the second Halladay didn't do any better.  He gave up back to back doubles to John Bowker and Eli Whiteside.  In the 3rd Halladay finally began to get back on track.  He pitched two straight 1-2-3 innings and one 1-2-3-4 inning.  In the 1-2-3-4 Andres Torres reached on a bunt.  In the 5th was when the team started to begin to look a contender.  Shane Victorino and Placido Polanco both got on and then both stole the next base.  After that Chase Utley only had to hit a grounder to the right side, which he did successfully, to score a run.

Then Halladay went back to 1st and 2nd inning Doc instead of being 4-0 Doc.  The Kung Fu Panda smacked a double to begin the bottom of the 6th.  Then former Oriole Aubrey Huff hit him in.  When you thought it couldn't get worse, it did.  To begin the bottom of the 7th Eli Whiteside hit a home run.  That would make two runs batted in for Whiteside in the game.

The Giants then completed two 1-2-3 innings to seal the 5-1 win.
