Utley, Polanco Down with Injuries

A day after Chase Utley injured his thumb the Phillies decided to place both him an third basemen Placido Polanco on the 15 Day Disabled List.  Polanco missed the past four games due to a elbow injury, in which utility men Juan Castro and Wilson Valdez filled in.  Polanco has already missed some time this season due to the same elbow problem.  On the other hand, Chase Utley has only missed two games with flu like symptoms.

Like a good neighbor, Ryan Howard is there.

Talk about a good game.  When you need a boost, Ryan Howard may be the guy to call.  His nearly perfect performance helped excel the Phillies to a 9-5 win over Nick Blackburn and the Minnesota Twins.  Howard had a combined 4 runs batted in.  He went 4-4 with 2 home runs, a triple, and a double.  Chase Utley also went yard with his 11th home run of the season.

Phillies take a 7-1 victory over the Yankees

Howard picked up two rbi's including the games first run.
The Phillies finally are starting to look like the NL Champs after taking the final two games of their inter league series with the Yankees.  The Phillies offense lit up the scoreboard in both games with a combined 17 runs.  Jamie Moyer and Kyle Kendrick both provided great pitching.  Kendrick allowed 1 run in 7 dominate innings.  Moyer became the oldest pitcher ever to defeat the Yankees.  I think the only modern player that will have a chance at that is Tim Wakefield.  He gets to face them multiple times in a season, unless he moves out of Boston.  Well, now to the highlights.

Time to Call up Brown?

Is this the time to call up top prospect Domonic Brown?  Many say he's the answer why others want him to prove his talent at AAA.  Currently Brown is with AA Reading, where he is hitting .308.  Brown could be a 5 tool player and a spark to Phillies success.

NL East Replenished

Stephen Strasburg was the last NL East rookie to showcase his talent.  His "epic" major league debut ended on a good note as Strasburg dominated the opposition for the win.  Strasburg sat down 14 Pittsburgh batters on strikes.  Strasburg may give the Nationals the spark they need to climb to the top of the NL East.  Consistency will be the key.

The Phillies have signed veteran Willy Taveras to a minor league contract.  The deal went down Thursday night, quickly after Taveras was released on May 25th.  Taveras started this season with the Washington Nationals.  He hit a funk, therefore the Nationals designated him for assignment.  After clearing waivers Taveras was released and as you know now he was scooped up by the Phillies.

As you may have seen we have added some new features to jazz up the site.  We also have some new additions on the way.  At the bottom of the page we have added a new Wibya bar.  This bar allows you to search the site, translate the entire site into a different language (I hope we go global), see the latest posts on the site, and view where  our visitors are viewing the site from (very cool in my opinion). As well you can click on a direct link to our partner blog "Are you Ready NFL?:  Were Coming", subscribe to our new RSS Feed, share this on social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace, view your twitter dashboard, and join a community chat.  Another addition to the site is the tweet board.  To view the tweet board click on the tab on the left hand side entitled "tweets".
