Hamels Gets Rocked

Cole Hamels lasted 5 innings in tonights showdown with the Giants.  He allowed 5 runs, 4 earned.  Hamels received his 10th loss of the season.  However, in his last 3 starts he has received 0 runs of support.  His record should be 9-8 as apposed to 7-10.

Hamels was rocked early starting off by rookie Buster Posey.  The catcher had the night off behind the plate and played first base instead, putting Aubrey Huff on the bench.  After loads off extra bases the Giants sported a 4 run lead.  Which was capped off by a Pablo Sandoval homer in the 4th.  To that point the Phillies had one hit, a Shane Victorino single.

David Herndon replaced Hamels in the 6th and then went 3 shutout innings.  Herndon's work has been limited  this year, but the Phillies are very close to keeping Herndon.  The Angels, Herndon's former team, can claim him back if the Phils remove him from there 40-Man Roster before September 1st, which seems unlikely.  Herndon was the Phillies only Rule 5 Pick by the Phils this year.

Shane Victorino started a 9th inning rally with a leadoff single.  Chase Utley, out of the 4 hole, singled through the right side.  Then both were brought in by a Mike Sweeney double, laced down the third base line.  All-star closer Brian Wilson was then brought in, and he closed the door on a Phils comeback
