Brewers-Phillies Series Review

The Phillies put up 19 runs in there two wins against Milwaukee in the two teams weekend series.  Jamie Moyer pitched a gem Friday and Joe Blanton followed with a win today.  Cole Hamels will go tomorrow as the Phillies try to complete the sweep and extend there lead over the Nationals and Mets.

Shane Victorino hit his 8th home run of the year in todays game.

Jamie Moyer made his major league debut against the Phillies, back in the days of the powder blue jerseys.  As a celebration of the Brewers 40th anniversary both teams wore there throwback uniforms.  Moyer hit some trouble in the second after a 3 up 3 down first.  Moyer gave up three solo shots.  One to Prince Fielder, another to Jim Edmonds, and then a batter later George Kottaras.  Moyer was then able to settle down for the rest of the game, something he has been able to do all season.  It seems to me that Moyer has been struggling at beginnings of games and then is able to get locked in.  In the Phillies last outing against Florida Moyer gave up 5 runs in the first and then gave up 2 hits through the next 5 innings.

Ryan Howard and the crew were able to get it done.  They were able to give Moyer and Blanton much breathing room.  On Friday Raul Ibanez,Ryan Howard and Chase Utley went yard, but Shane Victorino beat both in runs batted in.  His 2 rbi triple and rbi single were really the big keys of the game.  

And what do you know?  Shane Victorino was at it again today, being the rbi machine in the series.  Once again he led the game in rbi's with 4.  Victorino smashed a two run shot in the 6th and had two other rbi hits.  Joe Blanton pitched a fine ball game, even though he allowed 5 runs.  Blanton in 7 innings of work sent five down swinging and only walked one.  If he could limit the home run balls Blanton would be golden.  5 of the Brewers 6 runs came off of home runs by Corey Hart, Prince Fielder, and Alcides Escobar.
