Biggest Surprises (1)

The 2010 MLB season has been filled with unpredictable performances by some unlikely heroes.  Dallas Braden's perfect game was the most recent unpredictable performance.  Not once did Braden even pitched into the 8th inning let alone the 9th.  Dallas Braden was named the AL Player of the Week.

Jayson Werth
Werth has had an amazing year.  Up until this week the home runs weren't even coming but he led the Phillies in runs batted in.  Werth was named the NL Player of the Week.  In this past week Werth had 4 home runs and 9 runs batted in.  Werth has always delivered the clutch hit for the Phillies this season.  He leads the entire MLB in doubles.
Austin Jackson
Jackson has had a amazing start to his career this season.  The rookie was apart of the 3 team deal that sent Curtis Granderson to New York and Edwin Jackson to Arizona.  Jackson has performed better then the was then stud Curtis Granderson.  As of right now Jackson is second in the MLB in batting average, which is at .371.  He also has 6 stolen bases this season.  Jackson possess great speed.  Austin Jackson was named AL rookie of the month in April.

Ubaldo Jimenez
Jimenez has been the best pitcher in the league so far this season.   He leads the MLB in ERA which is at 0.93.  Jimenez has already pitched a completed game shutout this year.  He has 49 strikeouts which put him in a tie for 3rd place in the league with Cole Hamels and James Shields.  Jimenez was the first pitcher this year to reach 6 wins.  As of now he is tied for the league lead in wins with Roy Halladay and surprisingly Nationals reliever Tyler Clippard.  Jimenez gave up 2 earned runs in 7 strong innings in a 2-0 loss against LA.  He simply didn't get any run support.  Jimenez should be 7-0 with the way he has pitched.

Livan Hernandez
How would you expect Livan Hernandez to come back and pitch like a superstar ace?  Hernandez is 4-1 with a 1.04 ERA.  In his 15th season Hernandez returned to the Nationals rotation after being ineffective in New York and late in the year with Washington.  Livan pitched with Washington in 2005 and 2006 when he was in his prime.  In 2005 Hernandez went 15-10, which was his second best season ever.  Hernandez is second in the league in ERA only behind Ubaldo Jimenez.
Barry Zito
Is Barry Zito back?  The veteran pitcher has maintained a 1.49 ERA this season which is 5th in the league.  He's gone undefeated with a 5-0 record.  This is the Barry Zito the Giants saw when they awarded him with a contract over 100 million dollars.  Big Z hasn't necessarily gotten much offensive support.  He is fending for his own.
