Jamie Moyer named 5th starter

After pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the New York Yankees on Friday Phillies team officials considered Moyer to be the fifth starter.  Today Charlie Manuel and Ruben Amaro named him the fifth starter over Kyle Kendrick.  Personally I would rather see Kendrick be the 5th starter and I hope he becomes this years JA Happ.  Just like Happ he lost the fifth starter race.  Happ was placed in the bullpen which is likely where Kendrick will start 2010.  Then after Chan Ho Park (the 5th starter) faltered Happ was named 5th starter.  If Moyer falters or is not pitching as well as Kendrick he will probably be replaced.  The main reason I don't like this move is because of the age difference.  Moyer is 47 and Kendrick is in his early 20s.  Kendrick needs to get more experience under his belt.
If he does he could be a above average starter.  Kendrick has been working with Roy Halladay to improve his stuff.  If he continues to do this he could be a above average starter like I just stated.  Moyer is most likely going to be gone after this season.  He said he's open to playing in 2011 but how effective can a 48 year old be.  Moyer is not going to improve like Kendrick can.  If anything he's going to decline.

Many sources have said that Amaro may look for a starter near the middle of the season if Moyer pans out.  I would be happy to acquire a good arm but I would give Kyle a chance first.  As well how many more prospects could you afford to give up if the Phillies were to seek another starter.  Between the Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee deals they have lost Jason Donald,  Kyle Drabek,  Lou Marson,  Jason Knapp,  Carlos Carrasco,  Travis D'Arnaurd,  and Michael Taylor.
